Frameless shower screens, measured and installed

Frameless is the screen most of our customers ask for: 10mm toughened glass, very little hardware, and no frame to collect grime. Where the budget or the bathroom calls for it we fit semi-frameless and framed screens too, and reeded, tinted or curved glass when the design wants it.

Frameless shower facing a garden atrium

Types

Pick the one that suits your bathroom.

Options

Frameless

We hang 10mm toughened glass on hinges, brackets or a channel. It works as fixed panels, hinged doors, walk-in panels or over-bath screens.

Semi-frameless

6mm glass with a slim frame on the wall and floor edges, and a frameless door. It costs less and still looks clean.

Framed and sliding

A full frame in black, white or silver. Sliding doors suit narrow bathrooms and rentals, because there is no door swing to allow for.

Reeded, tinted and curved

Fluted glass gives you privacy, a grey or bronze tint changes the feel, and curved panels suit round showers and spa enclosures.

Hardware finishes

Pick from matte black, chrome, brushed nickel, brushed brass or gunmetal. We can fit soft-close hinges too.

Protective coating

A nano coating that stops soap scum and mineral marks bonding to the glass, so the screen is easier to keep clean. We can add it to any screen.

What we install to

The numbers we work to on every job, so it passes the first time.

  • We use Grade A toughened safety glass to AS 1288 and AS/NZS 2208.
  • Frameless screens get 10mm glass, semi-frameless and framed screens get 6mm.
  • We rate the hinges for the weight of the panel and match the wall fixings to what the wall is made of.
  • We use mould resistant silicone, colour matched so it does not stand out.

Questions people ask

How long does it take from quote to installation?

Usually within 7 days. Toughened glass cannot be cut once it is toughened, so we order the panels cut to your measure as soon as you approve the quote. The install itself takes two to four hours.

Will installing a shower screen damage my tiles?

No. We go through the tiles with diamond bits and seal every fixing. If your tiles are already down we measure off the finished surface, so the glass sits flush.

Can you replace just the glass in my existing screen?

Yes, as long as the frame is sound. If you would rather go frameless, we can pull out the old framed screen, take it away and fit a frameless one.

What is the difference between frameless and semi-frameless?

Frameless has no metal frame at all, just hinges and small brackets holding the glass. Semi-frameless has a slim frame along the wall and floor edges, with a frameless door. Frameless uses thicker 10mm glass, so it costs more.

What are the downsides of a frameless shower screen?

They cost more than framed screens, and the walls have to be solid enough to carry the hinges. There is also a small gap on the hinge side, so if the shower head points at the door some water can get out. Put the hinges in the right spot and run a water seal along the bottom, and that mostly goes away.

What Australian standards apply to shower screens?

AS 1288 says a shower screen has to be Grade A safety glass, which in practice means toughened. On frameless screens we use 10mm toughened glass. The waterproofing behind the screen falls under AS 3740, and that is the tiler's and waterproofer's job.

Do you install reeded or fluted glass shower screens?

Yes. Reeded glass gives you privacy without making the room feel closed in, and it works on frameless and framed screens. We also fit grey and bronze tinted glass and curved panels.
